“NEW HAVEN STARTS TONIGHT.”

Each morning is the same. We wake up to a phone call, get on Facebook or receive a text message, alerting us of the fast-spreading news that another TEEN life has been taken. How can one small city put so much fear in so many hearts?
New Haven, CT is ranked FOURTH on the list of Most Dangerous Cities in America, but WHY? No one can really see—and no one wants to see—what New Haven stands for because of all the murders. I have asked other teens in New Haven and they are ashamed that Yale students are scared for their lives when walking past the Popeye’s on Whalley Ave, just two blocks from their campus. What can we do? Will it stop? Am I next?
I have walked through nearly every neighborhood in New Haven, with my child, even, and I have never felt unsafe. This ranking always strikes me as very odd.
