I’m a straight, white male.
And I am not ashamed.
I am not prejudiced. I am against racism. (I know. I’m racist, because I benefit from white privilege, but I don’t think that’s fair or just, and I am not prejudiced.)
Being the father of a daughter who rocks and is the most awesome person I have ever met (model in the cemetery pix I posted yesterday), I am totally on the feminism boat. (was before she was born, but even more so now)
Probably half of my friends are queer, and I love them to death, and will ALWAYS stand for their equal rights.
So, straight, white, male does not mean homophobic, prejudiced chauvinist.
And I don’t think I’m particularly rare, either. We’re not all bad.
Mind you, I do know that there are many straight, while males who are homophobic, prejudiced, chauvinistic arseholes, and, it may be safe for women, PoCs and gender-queer or gay folks to assume the worst..I suppose you do what you must to protect yourself. But it makes me really sad that we can’t all just love each other and stop judging each other on the most superficial and arbitrary matters, such as gender, sexual preference or skin color.
And, no…that doesn’t mean that “I don’t see color” or that I think racism, sexism, and homophobia are things of the past. Just, I WISH they were things of the past, and I”m willing to do my part to make it so.
